Master the keyboard — learn to type quickly and accurately with proper technique
Before you start typing, place your fingers on the home row — the middle row of letter keys. Your left fingers rest on A S D F and your right fingers on J K L ;. Your thumbs hover over the space bar.
The small bumps on the F and J keys help you find home position without looking!
Master the foundation — your fingers' home base
The home row is where your fingers rest between keystrokes. Every finger has its own key:
The F and J keys have small raised bumps so you can find them by touch. After pressing any other key, always return your fingers to home position.
G and H are reached by stretching your index fingers inward.
Reach upward — Q W E R T Y U I O P
The top row contains the QWERTY keys. Each finger reaches up from its home row position:
Your left pinky handles Q, ring finger gets W, middle finger reaches E, and index finger covers both R and T. The right hand mirrors this pattern.
After each keystroke, return to the home row!
Reach downward — Z X C V B N M
The bottom row is reached by curling your fingers downward from the home row:
Your left pinky handles Z, ring finger gets X, middle finger reaches C, and index finger covers both V and B. On the right, the index finger handles N, and so on.
Put all three rows together and type real words
How fast can you type? Take the 60-second challenge!
Type the words as fast as you can for 60 seconds. Your words-per-minute (WPM) score and accuracy will be calculated at the end.
The timer starts when you press the first key. Focus on accuracy first — speed comes with practice!
